The Spa Town of Divonne-les-Bains

Thermal springs ideal for a relaxing break!

The spa town of Divonne-les-Bains is situated between the Jura Mountains and Lake Léman, a few kilometres from the Swiss border.  It is famous for its thermal springs which are said to have many health benefits.  The first of Divonne-les-Bains's thermal springs opened its doors in 1849 and throughout the remainder of the 19th century proved very popular with French high society.  This popularity led to the establishment of other entertainment facilities in the town such as a casino and a race course.  Today the casino is part of the Domaine de Divonne which includes a 4 star hotel which specialises in spa brakes and an 18 hole championship golf course.  The Château de Divonne dates from the 18th century and was the home of the Le Forest family who were the Barons of Pays de Gex.  Today the château has been converted into a luxury 4 star hotel and restaurant.  Divonne-les-Bains is also home to renowned chefs Eric Manent, Daniel Gobet and Dominique Roue and the town boasts many fine restaurants and bars.  If it is exercise you need the aquatic centre on the banks of Lake Divonne has an Olympic swimming pool, diving boards and a waterslide.
