Ferme-Musée de la Forêt

#FermeMuséeDeLaForêt #AuthenticallyBresse #LivingLegacy
Celebrating, passing on and preserving cultural heritage – here in Bresse, traditions are treasured, such as the local dialect, music, dancing and the hurdy-gurdy, crafts and gastronomy. The Forest Farm is much more than just a museum and you can even take part in workshops here to fully immerse yourself in the lifestyle of the olden days.

A traditional farm at the heart of Bresse, in St. Trivier de Courtes

The farm-museum is made up of 3 authentic 16th century buildings. The half-timbered farmhouse has been listed as a Historic Monument since 1930 and was built with natural materials found in the region. The visit presents traditional dress, local customs, objects from times gone by and agricultural machinery, and a short wander through the farm buildings will take you on a journey to another period altogether.

Dancing, folklore and the local lingo – here heritage lives on!

Learn how to weave hemp, hear the local dialect and dance along with the traditional folk band to the sound of the hurdy-gurdy. Every year the farm museum draws up a cultural programme for you to discover the crafts of olden times, and strives to keep the region’s traditional festivals alive.
