Almost 20 years old!
The museum opened its doors in June 1999 with an aim to protect, preserve and inform about the great and glorious history of firefighters through the ages. The visit gives an introduction into the ways in which the emergency service has evolved with scientific, technological and human development.
The Firefighters Museum provides a platform for the preservation of collective memory in order to better understand the present to build the future. The exhibition, located in a former PLM train station – the line which used to link Paris, Lyon and the Mediterranean – focuses primarily on the contribution of local firefighters, as 80% of the collection comes from Ain.
Different rooms in the 600m² building display various uniforms and helmets, hand pumps, models simulating the scenes of accidents in great detail and 2 old national rail service vehicles, as well as some more unusual objects to say the least –but you will have to visit the museum to discover these for yourself!
