Bringing together modernity and tradition, there is something here for everyone, young and old alike
The Museum of Bresse Life and Domaine des Planons stretches across an ancient 40-hectare farm, over half of which is open to the public. With old traditional games, hedgerows and vegetable patches, the site is an ideal place to spend the day as a family. Make sure you bring your picnic basket if the sun is shining!
Over 3,000m2 of exhibition space that is both modern and integrated in the environment will immerse you in the world of Bresse people from the 15th century to present day.
Using lights and colours, the museum stages temporary and permanent exhibitions featuring:
- Traditional clothing and headdress,
- Bresse enamelled objects and handicraft jewellery,
- Architecture,
- Gastronomy, very dear to Bresse.
Domaine des Planons Historic Monument
This traditional Bresse farm has been classed as a Historic Monument since 1938 and was active until 1992. Preserved in its entirety, the farm is made up of 5 farmyard buildings built from cobs, rammed earth and timber frames.
Don’t forget to look up to see the fully preserved Saracen chimney. The vast pyramidal chimney hood, emblematic of rural construction in this region, is intriguing from the outside and impressive from the inside.
