Présentation

Installed in the former town hall-school of Cuisiat, it traces the characteristics of the Revermont heritage from the 18th century to the present day. Its remarkable conservatory vegetable garden shows nearly 650 species of local, ancient or curious plants.
Located between the Bresse plain and the river that gives its name to the department of Ain, the Revermont corresponds to the foothills of the Jura massif. It is a region of small mountains which offers pleasant walks. Before the phylloxera crisis in the 19th century, it was an important wine-growing area, thus giving the nickname of "cavets" to the Revermontois. Finally, the "reverse side of the mountain" became a land of dairy cattle breeding and is nowadays embellished with fruit farms where the famous Comté cheese is made.
In the 18th century, this country was also famous for its famous earthenware produced in Meillonnas, a small village located 7 km from the museum. The Meillonnas earthenware factory forged its reputation on the finesse of its decorations: rose, chamarré tulip, shredded carnation, anemone accompanied by daisies and forget-me-nots "en cocarde"... The museum presents a beautiful collection of this earthenware in a space refurbished in 2021.
Installed in the village school, the museum has reconstructed an identical classroom for boys at the time of the Communale. For the visitor, this reconstitution is the occasion to immerse himself in the school at the time of Jules Ferry. On the first floor, toys and photos of classes and weddings from 1885 to 1939, collected in the area, complete the visit and enrich the tour dedicated to childhood.

Outside, a botanical trail extends the visit to discover the ancient and contemporary uses of plants. Just like the tools and objects in the museum, the cultivated plants are living witnesses of practices and knowledge. In turn food, medicine, perfume or raw material for crafts, they attest to past and present ways of life, customs or specific rituals.
More than 650 species of rare, local, curious and forgotten plants are cultivated in the conservatory kitchen garden. Apples and pears, vegetables, herbs, medicinal plants, cereals, roses and other flowers will have no more secrets after your visit!
