As the warmer weather and heatwave warnings arrive, finding a little spot to cool off is essential. Ain is abounding in waterfalls waiting to be discovered!

Glandieu Falls in Bugey

Glandieu is without a doubt one of the most picturesque waterfalls in Ain. The 60m-high falls mark the spectacular transition of the River Gland into the Rhône. The Gland is a stream which runs through Bugey and has excellent water quality, making it a firm favourite for fishing.

Clairefontaine and Sugar Loaf – other cool oases

A poetic name for an idyllic setting, Clairefontaine Waterfall flows out of sight, beneath the trees and off the beaten track. In winter, frosted and covered in icicles, it’s a magnificent sight.

And what can be said about Sugar Loaf Falls, the imposing stone stalagmite from 6 metres above? There is an enchanting feel to crystal-clear waters…
